Notes from 7/8

Remember: All notes are posted in the hallway between the Garza and the Fischer! Please check them out daily!

Tonight's sched:
530: Start mic'ing

Garza is open all day--get here as early as you need to in order to meet the listed schedule! We're running as if this is a show, so it's lights-up at 730!

General notes:

• PICKUPS. Expect to have pickups on Thursdays.
• CRATES. 3 crates have fleur-de-lis stamped on them. They are pre-set on the stairs pre-show. These are the IMPORTANT CRATES. These crates shall never leave stage right. EVER. These 3 crates are put on the table by the factory men for the Lovely Ladies. Lovely Ladies who remove crates: Those 3 crates will be taken off stage and set SR so they are there for the ABC Café. 
• CHAIR. There is a chair on SR that is needed for both the Inn, the barricade, and JVJ's death. Brandon pre-sets it for the inn. The students use it for the barricade. Meredith will take it off the barricade and place it SR. Do not move the chair. Like those crates, SR is its home. It likes to be in its home. 
• CHILDREN. Do not hang out backstage. It is too small. Please only come back there right before your entrance onstage. You cannot hang out back there. 
• PROPS: Please do not come through the curtain and drop your props/crates backstage. Everything has a place. Please find it. 
• BRIDGE UNITS to One Day More: Students on the bridge moves--please check the latches and ensure they are locked once you put them in place. ALSO, do NOT push them up flush against the wall--the Thenard's/Javert can't get out if the curtain is stuck.
• CANDLES for Turning Women. Bethany is our candle lady. She will be manning the candles and ensuring everyone gets one. Last night, we were missing one, then it magically reappeared.
• TRANSITION TO WEDDING. We have a lot of time. Move slower. Make it quieter.
• GROUP NUMBERS. If you can, please be backstage singing!

Costumer's notes:

• Guys- please make sure that you have a peasant shirt and vest.  The only reason you wouldn't need one is if you are one character the whole show and don't do any transitions out of that character.
• Ladies- there are lots of shawls, aprons, headcoverings, etc. backstage in a plastic bin under the hat table.  Please use them to change yourself up throughout the show
• Turning women- Eric wants your hair braided but if you hair is too short please put a scarf or headwrap on.  Then take braids out for the end.  Let me know if this is too hard and we can rethink it, just trying to have another difference.
• Look Down- everyone needs to have something on their head. 
• If you are a farmer/laborer either in front of the screen or behind please see me to talk about hats

Director's notes:

• Don't always assume your mic is on. Listen for it. If it's cracking/popping, we're going to turn it off. Be ready to project.
• Be consistent in your mic placement.
• Don't let the audience know when you've made a mistake. They won't know unless you LET them know.

Prologue

• During prologue, do not make noise backstage behind the curtains.
• During uh-huhs--you should be making the fAHther sound
• Taylor--keep your head up
• Farmer/Scott--come in closer to center. Grab a pitchfork or something. 

Factory

• Sam, kneel.
• Betsy, get with your number group and practice.
• Brendis--your looks are off. Find out what number(s) you are.

LL

• Bethany--cheat out more when you're on the wall
• Joey--go down an octave--it's creepier
• Guys--hand goes up, "$ in your HAND."

Docks/Cart

• Brandon--don't 'see' the cart coming
• No noise during slow motion

Trial/Hospital

• Matt/Scott--Match poses
• Fantine--carry a red hanky to the hospital

Inn

• Harry--stay in the light; watch your motions on "This weighs a ton"
• Inn guests--Post at the end of the song (the audience needs to know when it ends)
• Laura--look at JVJ for the 'La La La' and walk WITH him

Beggars

• Harry--work your blanket
• Josh--when exiting, go off to the side
• Matt and Javert--enter SL
• Kelly--don't laugh (audibly) over lines
• Ben--cheat out more
• Ladies--when Ben sings "Do you hear the people..." pick a level

One Day More

• Epinone--enter a few feet upstage
• Stomping--make look like a firm stomp, but not 'sound' like it. Theatre trickery, people.
• Marius/Ep--you're missing your 'Group A' moves (usually after the 4-step walkback)
• A/B--take longer steps
• Marius and Cosette--be in your spot before you start singing
• Ben--stay in the light

Act II

• Be quiet during intermission
• Ep/JVJ--move closer to the light at the gate
• Students--too much standing around at the barricade--seemed low energy
• Marius & Ep--work on Eponine's descent off the barricade
• Meredith--bring on a crate
• Epinone--die further downstage
• Marius--watch Ep's mic
• When Munch brings around the water, be more realistic when drinking
• When JVJ starts "Bring Him Home," it's a freeze
• Gavroche--don't wear your hat when you're climbing/coming over the barricade
• Kelly--die quicker
• Transitions to ODM--be faster and quieter

Wedding

• Josh--smooth out your wedding dance
• Dancers--pick up your feet
• End--Gavroche--be up in front next to Peyton
